Being the newbie
There’s nothing quite like starting a new school to throw you back to square one feeling like an NQT again! I started at a new school this term and even though I was expecting the change I don’t think anything could’ve really prepared me for it.
From the language used to refer to different paperwork and procedures, to the particularities of the behaviour management system, it’s a lot to get used to. Meeting new classes and pitching my planning right, learning lots of new names – staff and students alike, finding where things are and working out how the photocopier works. They may only be small changes, but there are loads of them!
Starting a new school is incredibly draining, everything needs more thought than it usually would and you’re bound to make a few mistakes – at least. The first full week is over, let’s see what the next throws at me!
